Mekedatu & Sangama



Mekedatu and Sangama is 90 kms approx from Bangalore Via Kanakapura take a left deviation from Kanakapura.

Sangama is confluence of 2 Rivers Arkavathi and Cauvery it flows through Mekadatu on the other side one needs to cross the River thru Small Boats only during Rainy season or Water is present and which are available at Rs 50/- per Head To & Fro again from the other side Mini Bus of the Forest Dept will drive to Mekedatu at Nominal charge of Rs 40/- per Head  To & Fro.


Boats

Mekedatu means Goat's Leap in Kannada. Here the Cauvery river jumps in to deep narrow gorge over which even a goat can leap. One can drive only up to Cauvery Akravati Sangama. After this you can cross the river in coracle ( circular boats ) or by walking if the water level is low. From here Mekedatu is 4km downstream.

There is only one bus available at the other end which can take you till Mekedatu. The rocks at Mekedatu get slippery during monsoon.

The water flows very fast from 150 metre passes through the small deep gorge which is 4 to 12 metres of passage on a Rocky deep at places Water climb down is steep and the rocks are slippery, making it very dangerous to cross.

Chunchi Falls is also very nearby for which you have to turn before reaching Sangama from Kanakapura and Name Boards at imp Joints are good guide.
